sportAt the Archer Academy we love sport and being active. We have built some fantastic new sports facilities at our Stanley Road campus, and you will be among the first students to use them. As well as a big sports hall and some multi-use games areas, we have also installed a state-of-the-art, all-weather pitch and a brilliant climbing wall. I can’t wait to have a try at that.

Our formal PE curriculum and clubs focus on both competitive sport and the simple enjoyment of exercise and keeping fit. There are lots of new activities for you to try and some familiar sports for you to get even better at.

You can look forward to taking part in football, swimming, climbing, cricket, athletics, cross country, netball, cheerleading, badminton, basketball, rugby, rounders, table tennis, muay thai boxing, zumba, futsal, squash, fitness and multisports. Some of our sports clubs take place as part of our enrichment programme, on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Other clubs take place at lunchtimes and on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons.

We regularly compete against other schools across the borough of Barnet. If you join a team to represent the school, there is a special team strip which Archer students wear with pride. So far we have had success in girls’ and boys’ football, cheerleading and cricket, and our trophy cabinet is beginning to fill up! We are looking forward to winning a lot more trophies next year.

If you have a particular interest or talent in a sport that you would like to see developed at the Archer Academy then you need to get to know Mr Gillo, the Archer Head of PE.

There are also lots of sporting trips at the Archer for you to look forward to. So far our students have enjoyed trips to watch Arsenal Ladies, see Saracens play at Wembley watch cricket at Lords and tennis at Wimbledon.

It sounds like you are going to be busy!
