The year 9 football team played away to Whitefield on a chilly Tuesday evening. After a narrow defeat in the cup the boys were raring to go and started well against Whitefield. With a few players unavailable to play, the boys had to play in a new formation and a fresh face was brought in. The boys started really well and quickly adjusted to the 3-5-2 formation, they were playing the better football and were creating more chances. However, we still went in at the break 1-0 down. The team stayed positive, they knew it was only a matter of time before they scored. It didn’t take long in the second half before a clearance from goalkeeper Rohat found Sonny in the opposition’s half who calmly took the ball into the area, shrugged off the defender and slotted home. The boys rallied together to go on for the winner, however it wouldn’t come. Chance after chance was squandered and there was a feeling it just wasn’t going to be our day. On comes Freddy J with 10 minutes to go, yet another debutante this year for the Year 9 team.

Relentless pressure from Archer saw the ball break forward for Aiden who collected the ball on the right hand side and sprint into the box, 1 on 1 with the keeper he hits a low hard shot across goal… hitting the post! It rebounds, hits the keeper and falls to Freddy, who hits it home first time to put us in front 2-1. This spurred the team on even more and Archer wanted to finish off the game. Some more fantastic wing play by Aiden saw him sprint up the right wing beating one man, taking the ball to the touchline, beating another man cutting into the area and crossing it in to the danger area. The keeper dives forward to push it away, it only goes as far as Freddy who once again calmly puts the ball in the back of the net to secure a 3-1 victory. Right place, right time. A strikers natural instinct. Well played and well done!
