The strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and other tales of terror:
To develop students’ understanding of Jekyll and Hyde we highly recommend reading as many other gothic texts from this period as this will help develop an awareness of the genre. We would also recommend researching the context surrounding the novel, which can often be found in the introduction to the text, as this will be part of their assessed response.
An Inspector Calls:
For reading around An Inspector Calls, it is useful to read other morality plays such as Arthur Miller’s ‘All my Sons’ and ‘A view from the Bridge’. These are both excellent companion reading and links can be made in terms of morality and responsibility.
To complement Macbeth it is worth looking at Shakespeare’s other nine tragedies.
- Antony and Cleopatra
- Coriolanus
- Hamlet
- Julius Caesar
- King Lear
- Macbeth
- Othello
- Romeo and Juliet
- Timon of Athens
- Titus Andronicus
